EBUS TBNA allows the physician to visualize structures inside the chest and obtain samples of lymph nodes in the mediastinum (the space between the lungs) using ultrasound guidance — all through the natural airway, without any incisions.
A bronchoscope (approximately the size of a little finger) is passed through the mouth. A small ultrasound probe at the tip provides real-time imaging of the mediastinum, guiding precise needle placement for lymph node sampling.
ROSE (Rapid On-Site Evaluation) is used — a pathologist reviews samples immediately during the procedure to confirm adequate tissue has been collected, improving diagnostic yield.
